A good friend hauled a load of steers to El Reno for his brother, who stayed to watch them sell. He is a registered Hereford breeder who has strong demand for his bulls. Raises Line OneXHazletts. Uses a black Angus bull on some of the cows.
He culls the bottom half or so, hence the load of steers.
The black baldies and the straight Herfs averaged the same weights. They separated the baldies from the Herfs. The straight Herfs brought 3 cents per pound more than the baldies. As the herfs came through the ring, the commentary was on the order of, ".....good looking Hereford steers. Fifty and sixty years ago, this was what paid most of the mortgages off around here."
My friend said El Reno was a lot more friendly to Herfs than the sales around here. Wondered if any on the boards could relate to that statement?
