Well, I talked it over with my dad, we figure we don't have much to gain by waiting another 6 weeks like usual to ship the calves, so tomorrow I'm off with 15 of 23 of them. I figure I'll average about 500-550 lbs, about 100 lbs light of my usual, but with $2.40/lb average for 300 through 600 weight steers and ~$2.10 for heifers, why wait?. I'll have 4 heifers (one dinky one), and 11 steers, all pretty matched, probably a pair in the 400, 7 in the mid 500's, and 2 in the 600's is what I'm figuring on.. Meanwhile my cows will eat a little less so I can stretch my fall pasture, they'll be in better condition with less feed through the winter, and they'll pay me back with better calves next year, especially important on the young cows.

I'll let you know how the sale was on tuesday if I stay to watch them go through (most likely I will)

I'm hoping that albertan cold snap isn't going to cause a big upset... From the market reports prices have been going up steadily. I'm not going to complain
