Earliest born fullterm calf

Help Support CattleToday:

Had one born last year, 5 weeks early. AI service, so I know the breeding & due dates. He was small and weak; we had to bring him to the house to dry & warm him. He spent the first couple of days in the laundry room - we corraled the dam - a mature cow - milked her out and tube-fed him. After 2-3 days, he was strong enough to go out in the lot with the cow, and did fine. I'm thinking the cow probably had some uterine pathology - she didn't stick to AI service or to the bull subsequent to this calving, so we shipped her.
Couple of first-calf heifers, AIed to the same bull calved 2 weeks ahead of the rest of the herd, this spring.
