I really like the look of these cattle. Does anyone have any experience with the angus/Fleck cross?

We've used one on a couple of angus cows. Best eating steer we've ever had was half Fleck.

all our cows are charloais cross with felckvieh best ones we have have everything you want in a cow

i used one on some brahma momas several years ago. got some great calves and some replacement out of him. love the cows best milker you could ask for raise good growthy calves. their bred to my new angus bull i bought the past spring. anxious too see the babies this coming march. the simm bull had a labido through the roof like grandpa done took a overdose of viagra ;-)

Our friend keeps a few PB Flecks and breeds some of his black Simmentals with PB Fleck bulls - gets thick black offspring - sometimes a little thicker fronted than I like, but pretty nice calves.

I've got 12 Fleck FB cows X Angus calves and really like what I see. Good Mamas and raising great calves. First time around with this cross for me. I think I'll stay with it. Out growing my Hereford X Angus calves.

What are the advantages/disadvantages of the traditional fleck vs. todays mostly black simmi? Boone

I'm not sure that there really is an advantage. The bull we sued just happened to incidentally be a Fleck. He was red, white faced, heavy muscled and has great carcass, growth, and maternal EPDs. Haven;t had any heifers so don;t know about the maternal side but the others have been right on the mark.
I do know that with most Fleck breeders if you call them Simmenthals they have a fit.

Did you settle out of court or did it go to trial? :D

I'm glad I'm not the only one that had a smarta$$ed thought about dun's typo!

PS - I've been looking at using this breeder's Hereford bull AI and I ventured over to look at their Flecks. They sure look like good cattle.

I HATE to listen to the music they've got loaded on their web-pages though!

The Black/solid red Simmentals are AMERICAN made Simmental - have the features we as breeders stress as important - calving ease, low birth weights ($$), no spots ($$), and yes color ($$) - along with the traditional benefits of the breed - heavy milk, good muscling & growth.
This has been using a combination of Swiss Simm, French Simm, Flecks & American breeds.
The true Flecks represent the German/Austria strain of the Simmentals. They are real meat/milk machines. They make super crosses with Angus and lighter muscled black Simms. Part of what made them so popular with Simmental breeders, is the Fleck strain DOES NOT carry the diluter gene, so you get a true RED or true BLACK.

I've got a handful of Fleck and Fleck influenced Simmentals in my herd, and they're a great cross. Most of my best Simmy's have a Fleck in her pedigree not too far back.

Very good milkers, heavy boned and meaty animals. You do have to watch the calving ease, as they will produce a large calf.

All of our cows we had were Flecks. We bred them to Homo blk simmys. For some reason the calves seem to be better if you breed a Fleck bull to angus cows that breeding an Angus bull to Simmy cows. We bred 25 angus cows to our fleck herd bull one year and the calves were amazing. 23 heifers..all identical, black baldys. On the fleckveih cows we preferred using Homo blk simmys fewer gray calves than if we bred them angus. I also bred a few Flecks to Hot Spot before I knewabout TH. Darn good calves.

SSG - this must just be a fluke of nature, because it doesn't make any difference if you use Angus or black Simmental or black anything. The cow is passing on the diluter gene - not any black bull (unless he is black factored & is GREY) NO ANGUS bull will pass on a diluter gene.
And it is very unusual that FULLBLOOD Flecks carry the diluter gene, they must be crossed with Amer Simm or Swiss or French Simm to have a diluter gene.
