Pretty sure you wont need to reply to TheodicyJ any more. Or hope not at least.
Slaughter can be very humane. Ignorance is not bliss. Ignorance is Ignorance. Do you know how many animals would have to be killed in order to have a strictly vegan society? The answer is ALL of them. Every single deer, moose, elk, skunk, racoon, every bird, every frog, every groundhog, possum...cows, goats, llamas.. EVERY SINGLE ANIMAL.The onus is not on me, good sir. You're the ones who act on the belief that slaughter is humane….justify thyself.
Theodicy is a philosophical argument that attempts to explain why evil exists in a world created by a good and all-powerful God.If there was any justice, your cow would be thinking the same of you: is he finished? If we chopped you up and fed you to the cows, they'd probably get indigestion. Brings a new meaning to the word unpalatable.
I feed whole shell corn. Whether they are on grass or hay...both will be good protein.Jeanne, I apologize for I'm sure you have recreated this several times. I copied your feeding schedule to keep for this year but cannot find it. Have a couple of 9 month steers we want to feed out. Could you please repost your recipe?
Thank you so much for this! Saved about 4 different places now.I feed whole shell corn. Whether they are on grass or hay...both will be good protein.
So, I start them out at 1% BW of WSC with added protein pellets for a 14% ration- but mine are young. Yours at 9 mo old, will only need maybe 12%.
Each week or 2, I raise the amount of corn, leaving the protein pellets the same. They should get up to or close to 3% of their body weight. They will pack on the pounds.
People worry about the corn they can SEE in the manure. If you had the equipment to analyze the manure from cracked, flaked, pulverized, etc. corn, you would find the same amount of corn, you just can't see it. There is up to an 8% more efficiency with processed corn vs WSC, but it is normally cheaper and definitely healthier.
Hope this helps.
I take weaned steers and finish them at 12/13 months old on this ration...with an average HCW of 750+ #.
