can you test the dna of cattle to tell you what % of each breed a certain cow or calf is i bought a couple cows last year off of a friend. they were ai bred but the son and his gf are the ones who bred them and now they have forgotten what bull they used, they were supposed to be bred to a ba bull but one black simmi cow had a red calf,

Most A.I. bulls should have parentage at Igenity........contact them and see how big of a pain in the but it would be to find out what bull they were out of.....good luck.

DNA can't tell you what breed an animal is. Well, except for Beefalo because of the bison markers.

But if the cow was AI'd, like Till-Hill said, those bulls should have their DNA on file. So the lab could compare your calf samples against bull number 1 and bull number 2 and let you know who matches or is disqualified.

Actually Pfizer has been working on "Breed" markers for awhile. They contacted our association, and for a fee they would acknowledge the markers for our breed. In the conversation it sounded like they already had identified the markers, just wanted the associations to pay a fee so they could tell everyone else.
