Difference

Help Support CattleToday:

Many years ago, the folks that became the Black Angus assoc. decided that the only real angus was black so they excluded the reds. Some black angus still are red carriers and will occasionally slip in a red calf. Some folks decided to breed Red Angus to Red Angus and formed the breed assoc. The breed has alwasy been progressive in performance and meaningful EPDs. Whole herd reporting is required. Th3ey are now diverse enough that they have their own breed traits/characteristics but in many ways are very similar to the other colored angus. They are really as different a breed of cattle as the breeds that have two versions of the same animal selected for different traits. Milking Shorthorn and Beef Shorthorn, Braunvieh and Brown Swiss, etc.

I'm not to much into the Angus stuff, (just began with red Angus bulls) but many Black Angus breeders claim differences in meat quiality, they say Black is better
