when a cow calves and begins to gain weight after birth will cause her to cycle. your heifers will probably breed faster because they do not have to produce milk for a calf. if they had a difficult birth it may slow them down because of the stress on her body.my personal opinion, can you afford to feed a cow that does not raise a calf for another year before getting a pay off?

The payback is a lot quicker with a two year old that is open then on a yearling replacemnt heifer. Unless it was one spectaular cow I wouldn't give her a second thought, just put wheels under her. Heifers are a different story. You need to look long and hard at the dollars and the return time frame.
