Cutting grass on slopes

Help Support CattleToday:

I want to see the baler that can suck in that big of a windrow

I see hay cut on steeper slopes in this area. Maybe not steeper but steep. When the roller is ready to drop a roll, they take it up on top so it don't roll off in the holler. I watched my neighbor take out a section of old fence on the farm next to me when a roll took off over the hill. Yeee ha.

Maybe they push it off the hill to make sure there are no leaves lift on the cutting!

Maybe they push it all into piles at the bottom?

Yes. My thoughts too. Maybe not push but put it up loose in piles (ricks). They still rick loose hay in Europe. In the 50s and 60s farmers were still ricking hay where I was raised. They turn the cows into the pasture with the ricks. It is free choice, serve yourself.
