Cut grass for fear of smothering alfalfa?

I've got a 3yr old pure grass stand that I cut in August. I followed that up with an alfalfa seeding using a no-till drill. Got good rains and a good catch. The grasses are up a good 8-10 inches and the alfalfa is around an inch. Should I cut the field with the mower high to avoid damaging the alfalfa, or let it sit as it over winter? I'm concerned with the grass matting and killing the young alfalfa over the winter.

We've always seeded alfalfa in early spring, so no late season seeding experience.
But I vote to let it sit. The grass should help to insulate the tiny alfalfa plants from frost.
Too late in the season to risk frost damaging the new seeding alfalfa leading to winter kill, which might still happen
depending on how hard of a deep freeze winter you have in your area this winter.
Frost is the enemy not the grass.

Also grass will help catch snow and a snow covering protects the alfalfa.
No snow cover combined with deep freeze = winter kill alfalfa.
