Cut Bermuda for hay after frost

Help Support CattleToday:

Lots of Bermuda cut in November around here. Stuff slows growth when the days get short and cool, gets the tops burnt off with a hard frost or freeze, stops growing when it gets hot and dry but starts greening back up almost immediately with sunshine and rain. Bermuda is one of those grasses that seem to grow best when your trying to kill it.
I don't think it suffers from late fall cutting. Not here anyway

I can't give an answer to that question, but I'll offer something to consider. Could cutting that late slow down the regrowth in the spring? I don't know the answer to that, but it's what popped in y head when I read your post.
Most people cut right before the frost. It is cut short. It is dead above ground.

My real question was really around the food value after frost.

OK State says standing fertilized burmuda grass will have adequate nutrition for dry cows until the end of December. So you should have decent protein cutting after a frost.
