Looks like beefmaster to me. I ran a beefmaster bull on a set of herford/simi/mutts for about 3 years you never new what was going to hit the ground they were my favorite set of cattle.

On the subject of ragtag fencing.....
I was talking to a guy with a large place, and he said that the fences were questionable in some places and his cows were pretty much on the "honor system" ! I thought that was funny way of putting it. I too have fencelines I have not yet seen due to thicket and one fenceline is now suspended down the length of a deep creek due to years of erosion....so I guess my cows are also on the "honor system"....
