Crippled cows

Help Support CattleToday:

That's an interesting thought. I can actually see that working if you could get one in to slaughter. Has anyone sold meat for animal food?
Had a friend back when you couldn't give a good colt away that had several colts, cut them up to feed to the slew of dogs he had. He said no point in giving them away then buying them back as dog food, he just cut em up and put in the freezer.

Heard about a bucking horse a long time ago at our rodeo. Shattered its cannon bone. Someone from a little circus bought it alive then shot it on the trailer. It was going to be bear food.

Any cow that goes after us, even after getting a shot would not stay at our place. That said, we do have one good momma that is a rip the first day or two after her calf is born.
Same on our farm. We tolerate a lot of things, but crazy cows isn't one em'! Too much to do and we all have kids now learning the ropes.

Dealt with that enough back in the buffalo days.

I have a cousin that had several old cow's some were lame, but he was going to wait for them to calve before selling or butchering. Long story short 6 down cow's close to calving, 3 C-section's Later,) vet induced 1 cow. 3 live calves and 1 live cow, that didn't want it's calf. Made burger out of 2 or 3 of them. Couldn't make burger out of all of them because of med withdrawal times.
