Crippled bull

Help Support CattleToday:

I assume so, not sure of the wording, vet compared it to an acl injury in people.

I just found this on the internet... "If some ligaments are torn, the stifle will repair itself in three months. If all ligaments are torn, the stifle will not repair itself and muscles will develop to compensate, which will take about five months."

I don't know what your situation is, but I'd sure be interested to see an animal held for 6 months and see what happens.

Initially I was thinking giving him som time to heal, but from what I've heard about these kinds of injuries over the years from others as well as the vet's concern. It sounds like even if it heals that it is likely to be a high potential for re injuring.

It's your bull. I'm just curious... It's easy to be curious with nothing invested.

I had a bull get a stifle injury a few years ago. It didn't swell up too bad, so I kept him around the pens on soft ground. He walked out of it a month later and went in for 4 more years. Think that one was more of a strain and not a tear.

I had a bull get stifled back in October last year. I posted some pics of him quite a while back. Packed feed and water to him until Christmas Day. Spent the winter in a pen with a bunch of other bulls. Turned him out with the cows on May 28 and then with the cows onto the range on June 5. He was the first bull to the far end of the pasture. He works, but he has a definite hitch in his getalong. I'll cull him this fall. I planned on taking him to sale this spring after he'd put his weight back on but got busy and he got in the way so just turned him out.
