Went out to our property today and we finally got some rain this week. Looks like the RR Crab grass I planted is finally coming up!

I put out 5 Lbs/acre 4 weeks ago. Made 3 passes with a disc. Had the seed mixed up with fertilizer and put it out with a 3 point spreader. Just left it laying on top of the ground. I talked to Mr. Dalrymple, and he said pull a light drag over it, but I don't have one.

Just use a section of chain link fence, with a fence post or cross tie tied on to it.

Just starting to see some crabgrass show up here, two leaves just enough to identify it. The soil temperature has been slow to warm up this year.

Got a letter in the mail today from Dalrymple Farm. They have a new crab grass out now called Quick n Big Spreader 19. Wouldn't mind trying some out in a test plot. Sounds like it might do pretty good.

The last pictures I posted of my crab grass was from May 8, 2021. This was from May 30, 2021 to give you some idea of how it did. This is the Big Dal variety.

Yesterday we got about 1/10th of an inch out of the 2 we were supposed to get, but it found reverse and came back last night. Quite the show of light too. Up to 3 3/4 now and still at it. Does look like it may start moving on again. Should grow a hay crop now. Getting it in is the next hurdle.

Folks, if you're gonna buy crabgrass seed, by it from RL Dalrymple at Ardmore, Oklahoma. He started all the work on improving crabgrass seed and study of its management. Through his work with the Noble Foundation, he has forgotten more about growing and grazing grass than any of us on this board will ever know. He is one of the true greats in the cattle industry.

Ummm....it didn't, Got another 2 inches overnight and still at it. Probably put us above average rainfall for this year now. Guess we will call the end of one drought....and probably the beginning of the next. 😂 Seems to be the way it goes now.

We have had a lot of rain since Wednesday. I don't have a rain gauge, but with my calibrated eye I'm thinking 4-5" over the past few days. It's still sprinkling now. Thank the lord for the rain, but would be nice to spread it out over a few weeks. Just praying we don't hit Death Valley in June again this year.

I know a lot of you intentionally sow it, as well as Johnson grass, but I can't help cringing every time I read a thread like this. I have spent thousands of dollars and thousands of hours waging a continuous 50 year war to keep these out of Bermuda hay fields. I never realized til I got on CT that seed companies actually sold it to be intentionally sowed, much less developed varieties for doin so!
