There are a few species of cattle, but the most common would be bos taurus (most domestic cattle) and bos indicus (zebu or earred-type cattle). Most cattle are domesticated at this time and live on farms or ranches. The average gestation period is 275 to 295 days. Cattle are herbivores, meaning they eat plant products (grass, grain, etc.), but may also eat certain refined animal parts (blood meal, feather meal, tallow). Cattle can be the prey of certain carnivores, but mostly fall prey to man.
