We have around 5 acres of woods fenced in with our cattle (on the edge of a pasture). Some mature oak (white oak and red oak) trees and some smaller oak trees. Some people have said that acorns can be harmful to cattle. The cattle spend most of the hot part of the day in the woods, or on the edge, in the shade. Can this be harmfull?

This time of year it's more harmfull to the trees then the cows. Acorn poisoning can be a real problem, but with adequate other forage they will rarly eat enough acorns to cause a problem. One the acorns start to fall is the critical time, that's when they need to have enough good quality forage that they won't ingest that many acorns.
