Wrote a while back about a cow the vet said was eating something that was causing her bag to get black sores and also around her eyes. She tested positive for photosensitivity. Said she was eating St. johns wart or something. Well we found a lot of buttercup in our pasture. Sprayed it and cut it short. Just not a good time to get rid of it tho. Anyway, the bag has cleared up but her eyes have huge black crusty lumps on bottom of her eyes. Starting to doubt whether this is still a photos. problem still, maybe a secondary infection now. It isnt cancer. Her eyes are fine, it is just the surrounding area on the bottom of her eyes. Any ideas on some type of antibiotic or medicine we can easily spray on her eyes? Any idea too on buttercup? We cannot find anything else in our pasture that would be causing photosensitivity. We live in southeast texas near beaumont texas. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. So sick of worrying about the cow. Vet says there is something still in pasture. Dont think so!! HELP please! She is the only cow affected by this. Hereford with pink skin. Thanks.

We deal with photosensitivity here once in a while too. It is a rare enough occurance that we don't worry about getting rid of the problem plants. Antihistamines and Anti-inflammatories will help out. As far as her eyes it may just be that the scabs haven't fallen off yet. If it really is an infection, penicillin would probably work just fine.

Thank you!! We cant find anything at all in our pasture that would be a problem STILL for her. I guess we will just treat as an infection now. Thank you for answering me.
