Cow with "Lumpy Jaw"

I have a cow that has a baseball size knot on her jaw. I am taking her to the vet tomorrow. When I described what it was to the assistant, he said it was "lumpy jaw". My question is, what is lump jaw and how does a cow get it? What do you do to treat it??

Turns out it was just an abcess. I was surprised by the size and location. It was hard as a rock too. Oh well, live and learn and then learn so more. Thanks!!
