I have an adult cow this is loosing the edges of its ears very much like a calf with frostbit ears - only she's a 3 year old cow and no freezing weather. Any thoughts? real slow around the edges. Started on one ear now looks like the other is doing it.

You're in Michigan yet you say no freezing weather? I would think the effects of frostbite would show up a couple of months after the event.

Hopefully someone else will have a better hypothesis.

Good point. Nothing that cold recently, but I guess we had our share. First time I've ever seen it in an adult animal however. Even the calves don't get it if they dry off so for a cow to get it seems really odd.

We had some cows that had frost damage to their ears 2 years ago. Wet cold weather is often the cause.

Could be I guess. it was a lot colder last year and no one got it.

I had a yearling steer that lost a bit of the tips of his ears a month after a miseable night in November.. it started with freezing rain and dropped down to -5F the same night, with snow and all.. I'd guess it's frostbite as well.
