Cow and Steer Interaction

This may sound strange, but I need information on how a cow would react to a steer. If the cow was ready to be bred and she was isolated with a steer, would she ignore him? Would he try to mate? I am not a prankster; I am writing a paper on the Hemingway novel The Sun Also Rises (it deals in part with bullfighting) and this information would be very useful. Thanks for any help you can give me.

If she is in heat she may very well try to mount him. Depending on the libido of the steer, he may mount her.

Cows mount the steer, the steer mounts the cow when she is in heat. Steers will play by mounting each other... or anything else who turns her back on them at the wrong time... bovine anything elses to be more specific. They don't tend to mess with bulls, though...hmmmm......
