Covid-19 deaths

Help Support CattleToday:

My son is high risk as is my dad and quite a few extended relatives. We had a family dove hunt and get together this past Saturday. My Aunt, who is probably the highest risk of all of us said it best when some one asked if they should hug her or not. She said... what's the point of being alive if you are not living.

We all discussed it and decided we will not live in fear.

They each made that decision for themselves, which is how it should be. As I said, it's easy for each of us as individuals to do so but deciding it for everyone else is a different aspect altogether. None of us has the right to decide that for others.

'Fear' has nothing to do with it tho that card/allegation is often thrown out in public discussion. Humanity and respect for others' health and welfare does. There are 3 of us left in my immediate family, and I at 70 am the youngest. None of us fear death or illness but we each want very much NOT to be the one that unwittingly transmits Covid to someone else in or outside our own family. We simply don't have the right to engage in behavior that puts anyone else at risk.

I think the kids whose family business went under due to Covid restrictions, then their parents got divorced, then their father committed suicide would disagree that these mandates respected their families health and welfare. I think the parent who is trying to provide both a financially stable environment and a stable social environment for their special needs child would disagree these mandates respect their families health and welfare. The kids that depend on those 2 meals from the school system every day probably don't agree.

There are countless cases of people like this that these mandates have effected that no one hears about an no one thinks of. I ask people to really look at their motives and consider what is actually for the greater good. Suicides, overdoses, domestic violence, depression... all thru the roof right now due to these mandates. What about those people? When do they get a choice?

It's a false choice. The mandates aren't killing business; the virus is. Whether restrictions are imposed or the virus is allowed to rage at its own pace, businesses are going to suffer.

We can mitigate the negatives by providing relief for people who lose their jobs, providing food for the kids who aren't in school, etc. Of course, that costs money, and good luck convincing some people that the government should spend a nickel to help anyone else.

I asked this question in another thread and got no comments.
What is the life of a person worth?
Most would take it as a rhetorical question.... but

You want a cold blooded number?... lifetime earnings.
Just like the value of a young cow vs the value of an old cow that has produced 9 calves going on 10.

A young person has higher expected future earnings and is more valuable.
An old person who has already achieved 90% of expected earnings would be less valuable

I dont believe that is true. If they had been able to stay open and customers chose not to come in then so be it. That's how the free market works. The govt guaranteed no customers were going to show up.

Last week I was eating in a little cafe next to a place we have and I know most of the people in there pretty good. One of the ladies told me after an older gentleman walked in that they have several older couples and a few older men who come in there and get their food every day. Several of them arent suppose to drive and what not.

She said about two days after they were forced to shut down she sat up in bed one night and remembered all those people. She was telling me she couldnt hardly sleep she was so worried. She told me the next morning she was up making tacos and things to take to them for breakfast as an excuse to check on them. She said a couple of them had gotten some people to get them things. One couple asked her if she could go to the grocery store for them. One man though, whod wife had past away at the end of the year had nothing left. She said he almost got emotional when she showed up and it made her start flat out crying. He told her he ate the last of his fries yesterday and was trying to make it one more day because a couple people from the church usually come by. He was hoping they would run and grab him a few things. She ended up getting him a bunch of stuff and making meals for him with some help from some other people in town.

How many people like do you think got forgotten about. I dont think that man got a choice either.

The virus didnt do that... the mandates did.

... and, the people from the church did not show the next day like he was hoping. They thought it best to stay away so they wouldnt risk getting him sick. Cause you know... starving isn't near as bad a covid. That's some more of that Covid logic at work.

I hear more and more stories about the collateral damage these covid mandates have done to people. It's making me sick to think about all these people being thrown to the dogs who didnt even get a voice or a chance or any thing.

That ain't the right way to handle things.

That's a moving story. Nobody should starve to death. But then again, nobody should be forced to risk Covid infection because it's their only way of getting a meal. We can't ignore Covid and pretend all would be well. As I said, we need to provide financial support and sustenance for the needy. That takes funding and structure from the state and federal levels of government, which has been lacking.

Buck that sounds a lot like the rhetoric used by the National Socialist German Workers' Party.

Resembles the rhetoric, perhaps, but in practice looks very different. I'd say it sounds a lot like the teachings of Jesus. Much better than "allow everyone to fend for themselves, and if they die, they die."

I would say you need to read,
One can scour the New Testament and find nary a word from Jesus that calls for empowering politicians or bureaucrats to allocate resources, pick winners and losers, tell entrepreneurs how to run their businesses, impose minimum wages or maximum prices, compel workers to join unions, or even to raise taxes.

"Christianity is not about passing the buck to the government when it comes to relieving the plight of the poor or sick."

And nary a word to the contrary. We're left to interpret the message and spirit of the text. The Pope seems to agree that it is government's duty to care for those in need. He's probably read the New Testament once or twice.

That's really rich from the guy that runs the richest organization in the world.

I enjoy reading people's opposing ideas but you are just grasping for straws now Buck Randall. The Pope was a horrible reference. He has been selling out the bible for years and lost the respect of a lot of people. The idea that they would close churches at a time like this was more of that covid logic I will never understand.

The government is the people.

I personally know 3 people that were on their deathbed before covid hit and were listed as covid.

1. Drank more than a 1/5 (actually 2) a day. In hospital 3 months hadn't eaten since, pulled out is support system and died in 36 hours. Death by covid.

2. Prostate cancer 4 yrs did everything imaginable, shriveled to a shell. Death listed as covid.

3. Kidney failure, diabetic, circulation problems (amputation of limb) been suffering for 8 years. Finally taken off life support, passes away 47 hours later. Death by covid.

No wonder Canada has a lower death rate by covid, they aren't paying the hospitals extra for covid deaths!!
