Covexin 8 or Calvary 9

Help Support CattleToday:

Both made by Merck.

Calgary 9 is exactly same as Covexin 8 except it covers Clostridium sordellii in addition to the other 8 Clostridials.

I use Covexin 8. Sordellii is rare, so you are not giving up anything. The main concerns are Chauvoei (blackleg), Novyi Type B (blackleg disease, necrotic hepatitis), Haemolyticum (Bacilliary Hemoglobinuria Red Water), Perfringens C and D, and tetani.

That is exactly the answer I was looking for!

Have used both, depending on availability; C9 is a 2ml dose vs 5ml for C8.
I see smaller knots with C9... but protection should be pretty compsrable

The cavalry product uses a newer carrier, making it less prone to adverse reactions. Beyond that, there is no difference in efficacy, other than the inclusion of C. sordellii.
