Being just a hobby farmer, I have a couple questions.they might sound stupid......but here goes.
1. What do you all mean by "terminal" as it refers to cattle

2. If a calf dies.....are there aren't any signs of trauma, disease, etc and you find it quick enough do you eat it?
What about down cows in the same situation

3. After a couple of calves, is a cow decent for the freezer as cut meat or is it better for grind? If they don't produce for your operational requirements. I know most will send to the sale, but was wondering about the table fare after a couple calves.

None of these questions apply to me, but was just curious.

Terminal means no calves will be kept for breeding

If it died and I didn;t kill it I ain;t about to eat it

We butcher the cow and let her hang. After a couple of weeks we cut off a couple of steaks and try them. If they're too chewy for my tatse we grind the whole cow and donate most of the meat to one of the food pantry deals.

#1 Ad dus said. A terminal calf is one that will be 'terminated', sent to the feedlot.

#2 No, I wouldn't eat it, calf or cow.

#3 As for the cow, I haven't, but that doesn't mean that I wouldn't, depending on the circumstances.
