Been a looooong time since we have butchered a beef. Wondering on the cost. Let's say I have a 1000 lb steer, what is an approximate cost to butcher it? Not looking for all the dressed weight/ hanging weight numbers. Just want to know when I drop off a 1000 lb steer at the processor, approximately what am I lookin to pay when I go pick up the finished product? (Tried to do a search on this forum as Im sure it has been discussed before, but it doesnt seem to be working for me.)

last one I did was a $45 kill fee and $.41 per lb on the hanging weight. On your 1000lb steer if the carcass hanging wt is 600 lb, your cost would be 600 x .41 + 45. = $291. or thereabouts. $300. would be in the ballpark.

Same here, except only a $10.00 kill fee + another $10.00 fee, and then .40 per pound unless you want special cuts/grinds, and then it's .45 per pound.

Back in June I paid $50 for killing , .25 / lb hanging wgt. for cutting , wrapping was another .25 / lb hanging wgt. A 1000 lb steer should hang around 600 lbs.

Up here the kill fee has gone up to $60.00 due to the gas prices, this is for on farm slaughtering. Cut and wrap is still 45 cents a pound based on the hanging weight.
