I don't understand why our friends to the north are so hung up on NAFTA. NAFTA is no more than a wart on a pig's nose that's coming through our front door. Afterall, what does Canadian and USA trade got to do with China investing huge amounts of money in deep water ports in Mexico. What does this have to do with plans to widen the Panama Canal to allow mega ships capable of transfering 12,000 plus containers? What does this have to do with plans to build a super highway through Mexico, USA and into Canada? What does this have to do with the Supreme Court's decision in Kelo v City of New London that now makes it ok to condemn private land for the benefit of a private corporation? What does NAFTA have to do with the US spending millions in our tax dollars to build a Mexican Customs facility in Kansas City? Probably nothing I guess and if you believe what they say, we are just going to be rolling in the money. Of course, they neglect to mention that most of our manufacturing jobs have gone to China. Since China has now figured out they can get the work done cheaper in India so they don't have to pay these high wages. (Afterall, a man making $40/week will really cut into your profits.) Of course since there are more english speaking people in India than there are in the whole of the USA, Canada and Britain, I guess its OK that they get these jobs. Afterall, they do at least speak english so its about the same. Oh, just a couple other things they neglect to mention. $14 trillion dollars sounds like an impressive GDP but when you consider the fact that we now add in the $6 trillion dollars of gov't spending to this figure its not that impressive. Personally, I've never considered bearuracracy a product. I definitely wouldn't willingly pay for it. So based on this thought, I'd say our GDP is only $8 trillion and shrinking. As I've said before, this free trade is not free. It will come at a cost to both our countries. Believe it or not. JMO
