Confederate Surprise

Help Support CattleToday:

WE have a copy of a book called:Standing Ground The Civil War in the Shenandoah Valley by the Northern Virginia Daily. In it there is a chapter on the Blacks in Gray, and a small one page chapter entitled: Rebel Black. This short page, has a picture of a black man with a confederate flag, His name is Richard Ford. He and his brother who is Kevin Craig, first participated in a reinactment in 1991. Their great-great grandfather was John Jay Jenkins, according to the one page chapter. In the chapter Blacks in Gray, there is really too much for me to type, it is quite interesting, also. Also, Ford believes that his greatgreat grandfather was a free man, he died in 1912, but he is not 100% sure. The copyright on this book is 1996. Merry

Many folks are un-aware that Colored folks played a big part in providing the South with Troops. That was a great story, about some real good people, that are knowledgeable in the TRUTH.

That's interesting Mike. I know a few men of color who share these same views. I think its also interesting that out of the 10 million people who were sold into slavery, only 5.4% came to the United States with the two major ports of entry being Charleston SC and Newport, Rhode Island, yet southerners are normally blamed for this atrocity and many believe had it not been for Lincoln, slavery would still exist in this country.

Its refreshing to see that his father's explanation of what occured coincides with that told me by my father and grandfather. I guess it will take another generation or two before we can have it being a race war and reparations can be paid.

Maybe some of the neo-confederates on this board should get together and draft some articles of secession.

basaxemoo, you may not want them to do that. Times have changed a mite since the 1800's. Don't have the numbers handy, but I believe the Confederate states has a pretty high percentage of current enlisted members of our armed services. An awful lot of our manufacturing is performed in Confederate states (sorry no numbers again, looked for it because I know I've read it but couldn't find it). Besides were would we send all the baby boomers and snowbirds when they retire! It gets nice and quiet around here after the leaves fall ;-)

Horticattkeman, quick question is your avatar a battle standard or flag of the Confederacy?

I really don't like it when people quote something and than don't bibliography it so it bugged me and I found where I read that. The quote is of present day "the eleven states of the Old Confederacy comprised the fifth-largest economy of the world" ...A.V. Huff, historian of the South at Furman University

It was the battle flag for the 12th LA infantry in which my great, great, great, great, grandfather fought and died in.

There was another version of this flag that was the 2nd Confederate national flag, but it was 1/3 longer with the same field but longer fly.

It was a good idea the first time it was tried but we lost.

What makes you think it would be any different this time?
Xcuse me, but who said we lost?
It aint over 'till it's over and it aint over. Don't confuse time out with the end of the game.
