The guesstimators missed the big beef price decline in 2016, but they are continuing to update their forecasts. I just saw a five year forecast from Cattlefax that showed a slow decline in returns thru 2020. Sounds like the cow herd is still growing.
Are you seeing any cutbacks In your area, or are cow/calf producers trying to make it up with more volume?

Montana, Wyoming, and western South Dakota have been caught in another drought. For producers who don't have hay it would take most of their next calf crop to buy it. Are sale barns have been having huge runs of cull cows. Producers trying to sell older Breda are getting little more than slaughter price.

Saw a lot of broken mouth range cows sold in MN a couple years ago. Seeing running age range cows now. Most were thin and selling for $950 to 975 early this fall. That kind would kill for $550 or so. Someone made $$$ moving them east.
