Help Support CattleToday:

Basically - NO. BUT, there are exceptions, at least in the Simmental breed. I have a solid red, white blazed faced cow, born with a solid black spot on her side. Only about the size of a tennis ball. Another solid red, white blazed faced cow has black hair fringed around her ears, tail, and inside hind legs. One is sired by a black bull the other not. These cows DO NOT carry the black gene. This is some "birthmark" type gene, I believe, or just an odd-ball gene. Jeanne http://www.SimmeValley.com

Because the spotting gene is seperate from the color genes, Iwonder if spotting mayybe doesn't carry it's own color gene. Just a thought
