College football Saturday tradition

Help Support CattleToday:

Our high school team is ranked #1 in class 2A . We beat the #1 ranked team in 3A Thursday night . One of the most exciting high school football games I've seen in years . First game for both schools . Each team has a D1 college recruit . Their guy has committed to Clemson , our guy is leaning towards UAB

A little more serious about it this weekend. 2 sets of my kids and their spouses going to Guntersville Lake for the weekend, plus some Auburn football Saturday. IMG_6567.jpeg

SE Virginia is well known for boiled peanuts... first time I ever had them was with a friend many many years ago... Not bad considering I was a newly transplanted Yankee..... And I love grits and scrapple (ponhous) ...typically NOT Yankee food.

I never cared for boiled peanuts. 1st and last time was in N. Cackalacky around 1969 and I haven't (and won't) try them again.

No real surprises in Week 2 except for ND's loss and Oregon should have done a lot better against Boise state. The Ducks will have a tough one against in-state rival Oregon St next week.
Lots of teams played 'schedule fillin nobodies' yesterday.

There's a difference in how they are cooked . My high school sells boiled peanuts at our home football 🏈 games . They are out of a can and are nasty 🤮! I raise my own peanuts 🥜. Spanish style peanuts. I wash them and then add salt to taste and boil . They can cook too long which ruins their taste . I start sampling at about an hour and when they get like I like them I let them soak . My oldest son likes Cajun style so he adds red pepper. I don't do hot and spicy 🥵 I've had people who say they don't like them to love mine . I'm ok if folks don't eat them ; just more for me ! 🤠

Do you eat them wet or dry them out first? I only ever had roasted peanuts.

Wet . These are green peanuts freshly pulled up . That's another difference. If you try to boil dry / green peanuts it takes forever and they just don't taste the same . Those dry ones are great for roasting !

I had boiled peanuts in Georgia one time... I don't get why anybody would want to eat a wet nut. It taste like somebody just spit it out of their mouth in to yours. *barf
