Have a 6yr old large Hereford that had a full term still born calf 4 days ago that has not cleaned? Can the afterbirth be pulled?

No don't pull on it. A shot of estrumate usually works. Pulling on it can cause damage to the uterus.
If you have more retained placentas, look into a mineral suppliment. Selenium has been helpful here. Haven't had a retained placenta in 120 cows for 3 years.
Jason Trowbridge
Southern Angus Farms
Alberta Canada

Richard,
If the shot of estrumate that Jason told you about doesn't work for you, I know of something to use that they will clean in 8 hours after giving. I have an old Angus cow that after her last calf she didn't clean, so I tried this and 8 hours later she had cleaned. I was amazed! But if the estrumate works for you great! Good luck.
: Have a 6yr old large Hereford that had a full term still born calf 4 days ago that has not cleaned? Can the afterbirth be pulled?
