Chased a bull today.

I quit at $19,000.00. Next $500 bid owned him, He is as good a polled bull as walked. The video of him was awesome to watch how he moved.

No way to come out on that bull, at that price, as a commercial bull. When I think about the number of animals I sent to slaughter as steers just because they were commercial... and they would have looked every bit as good... it kinda makes me sick. I believe in using the best bull you can get as long as it makes financial sense, and this bull is great for experienced cows. One of the few bulls today I've seen nowadays that looks like a bull.

I like your experienced cow remark .

There was a guy down the road in Texas who paid $20,000 for a bull. Then the bull got a testicular itis of some kind and became a one nut bull. Could still use him I guess just not on as many cows

Gcreek, you are the wisest cattleman on this board. In your commercial operation, can you justify a $20,000 ( understanding the exchange rate) bull in comparison to the top flight bulls we have seen you purchase for far less money? Love to hear your thought process.

It's called tax evasion. I have most of the toys we need, a crew house and a hay barn in the making. I am a cheap bugger buying feeder cattle and bred cows/ heifers but never scrimp on bulls. He was purchased by a couple I know very well for much the same reasoning.
Rule of thumb has always been 5 steer calves for a bull. 500 lb steer calves are bringing close to $6 at present. I was only 1.5 calves overpriced.
