Almost everytime I go on a trip we end up far from where we planned. I mean very very far. One time we were in California and ended up going to New Orleans since we did not like California.

But I am currently halfway through a two week trip and we are far from where we planned once again. We are in western British Columbia instead of Central Alberta like planned.

Anyone else have spontaneously changed vacations?

Last year we just headed west and let the mood take us wherever. Best vacation ever. Have a couple of stops planned this year and the rest will be just like last year.

Have Fun!

Kenny, I totally agree with you, the best vacations are unplanned.

I'm probably going to do some picture spamming when I get home.

Do you need a passport now to go into Canada? Thought I read that somewhere.
Yes, you only need the passport card to get into Canada (or Mexico) and its cheaper. I suggest getting your passport and heading into BC. I've never seen the Alps but my moms been there and areas of BC look like the Alps.

Does going to an Agricultural Engineering convention in New Orleans at The Hyatt and spending every waking hour on Bourbon Street count?

What I like to do is fly somewhere and rent a car and drive. If I find an area that I like and the people are friendly I'll set up house there for a while then move on somewhere else. Planned scheduled vacations are too stressful for me. My wife and I went south and ended up on what looked like Gilligan's Island. From there we struck out by boat and ended up on a deserted island and stayed there a while. Barring the sunburn in places that rarely saw sun we enjoyed it so much we went back again only this time with the children. I'm getting hints that we need to strike out again cause my daughter has never seen pictures of the island she wants to go. I'm beginning to think its about time myself.

I don't think that counts. You were "working", not on vacation.
In my limited experience, vacations have to be tiring and boring. I quit even trying to have them years ago. Got to be where your time was running out and you had to hurry up and have fun. :frowns:

But I have had some very good times at get togethers like conventions. Sounds like your NO trip falls into this category. If you were on an expense account-even better.
Representatives/salesmen for certain companies have a budget for entertainment. An amount they are supposed to spend. There have been times I did my best to help them with this.
But you already knew this, didn't you?

Not doing the vaca this year. Steve's plant is working over the July 4th holiday and that's normally when we do this. Just breaking out the tiki torches and the ghetto pool. Most of the time we are gone I spend worrying about who is feeding animals, the grass that isn't getting cut and who is watering tha garden. Besides, everyone knows that Alvarado is a paradise of earth...

I've never been on a vacation. Either no time or no money. :frowns: Now it's nether one. ( Or both) :?

Took our first trip without plans last year. No real destination, no motel reservations, no nothing. Worked great although we did have to drive several hours one time to find a decent motel. Turns out to be a small adventure but you see and do a lot of things you would never have thought of had you "planned" the trip.

with kids they want to go to water... so we would always either go to perdido key or gulf shores, one time i had a wild hair too go to buloxi instead what rotton place too take kids :( you could wade out for a mile it seemed and never get above your knee's they must of had a queer ralley there that week to, casinos.. i said let get the he#! back too gulfshores what a waste

I've been on vacation 4 years, 1 month, 19 days.

I'm always on vacation in my mind!

My Dad was the king of the spontanious vacation. We'd just get in the car and head off in the general direction. We went through Missouri and Arkansas one year and it was a blast. We just stopped at whatever touristy thing looked good. Got a bushel basket of good Arkansas peaches, got me a Hillbilly hat that I still have, Saw beautiful scenery. The Ozarks have it going on! I love the caves!

I was expecting to hear from you but now I know why I haven't yet. I was looking forward to getting together and meeting for lunch. I guess it will have to be another time.
Have a great holiday and enjoy..

Sorry, we were going to go to Banff, but we rea that most off the roads weren't open yet so we changed our plans. I was looking forward to heading your way, but we'll just have to do it another time.

What was her name? (  )

Had a friend back in Sr. High that picked up a gal on Bourbon Street. Turned out she was a he. Not sure how he found that out :lol2: . Do they still have the gal that swings in and out of a second floor window?
