CFIA Enhances Animal Disease Reporting

Help Support CattleToday:

If our problem arose from cattle imported from Europe and specifically from the UK we all should realize what happened in the 70s and 80s? Canada relaxed the importation rules way earlier than the US. If you could import an animal it was like winning the lottery because once she was in Canada she or her offspring could be exported to the USA! The US buyers were lined up with cash to buy just about anything.
Right now there is a class action lawsuit in Canada against our government for allowing MBM from the UK into Canada, even though the government clearly understood it was contaminated. The company involved (Ridley) has basically admitted they screwed up and settled for $6 million. That $6 million is being used to sue the feds for, I believe, $7 billion! Of course the federal government won't settle, they prefer to delay and pretend they didn't completely destroy the cattle industry...but sooner or later they will have to pay up!

Yep- Actually went back into the 60's...I can remember in the 60's- early 70's making several trips to Lethbridge and Regina to look at bulls that we were thinking of AIing to- that had been imported from the UK/Europe that couldn't be brought into the US...And you're correct some Canadians made some big money getting the first North American sons or daughters of those animals born- and then selling them down to the States....

When the imported Salers cow tested positive for BSE in 1993 all the known UK imports were slaughtered. However how many had entered the food chain before 1993? The cattle slaughtered in 1993 were rendered....and entered the food chain! Did any of that product make it into the USA? I suspect it probably did.
By 1993 both US and Canadian officials knew there was a major problem in the UK. They knew BSE was spread by feeding MBM...so why was this product allowed into the food chain? The only answer is either greed or complete incompetence....which by the way is understandable if you know how the Canadian government works!
Now people like you and me know you don't feed sick animals to other animals or people...what kind of idiots or crooks do we have running our government food safety agencies?

maybe some of you Canadian Ranchers can answer my question here below ;

you got to be kidding me, what are they doing ???

NOT KNOWING EXACTLY what this recall is about, we must assume it is just more mad cow feed in commerce, but they refuse to tell us exactly what it is.

ruminant animals may have been contaminated with prohibited material

exactly what was it ??? this is like last weeks 208,820 pounds WHAT???

under regs just previously posted, if i understand this right, you now have 3

Subpart B—Listing of Specific Substances Prohibited From Use in Animal Food or Feed ;

§ 589.1000 Gentian violet.

§ 589.1001 Propylene glycol in or on cat food.

§ 589.2000 Animal proteins prohibited in ruminant feed.

BUT this is absurd. i am confused? they have these codes for a reason, but to intentionally confuse the public, is not right.

i guess i will have to file another FOIA. and all they have to do is just clarify what the hell this is.
