I really can't understand how Cattle Annie and our other neighbors to the North can keep Smiling
If the people in the good old U S of A were in their shoes, we would all be crying in our Beer.

Crying in the beer only waters it down. Then you would really have something to cry over! ;-)

Anyway, I'm glad to see producers get fair value for their stock. I figure that sooner or later we'll come through this (hopefully before the lose the place), so what else can you do but keep your chin up and hope that the next uppercut doesn't come from a Heavyweight champion?

If nothing else can be said, at least we live in interesting times.

Take care.

This is outstanding. Even in Fla. where prices should be a bit lower because of freight they are soaring in the same range for quality animals. How long can it last? In some cases heifers are spiking due to cattleman trying to buy quality replacements from the barns.

This was our local on July 7,2004 Muskingum Livestock Auction
We are taking a couple pairs and a couple bred cows this week. BUT, they are herefords and you can knock anywhere from 10 - 35 cents off the pound even if they are in excellent condition. Most times more.

They already have Muldoon! Steer jocks use it all the time. Cover up the white here and there, Make the red tint go away...won't wash out for a long time if done right. I'm not into the deception end of the cattle industry, YES I show at numerous state fairs and county fairs. If all goes well I will hit NAILE and Denver this year too. Rest assured, what you see is what you get with my cattle. I once regestered a show heifer the day she was born---FEB 29th. Every one else round here had alot of march 1 calves.

just recieved the return for 5 fats

What was your Quality Grade, yield grade, how much did the carcasses weigh, and what was the price per cwt.

Got our check back on some fats a week ago, dressed 68.3% and got a little over $1.47/lb carcass for them. Can't keep heifers with those prices.

Does anyone know about what percentage of heifers that go thru salebarns are kept by someone for replacements as opposed to going to a feedlot? How about cows in the 4-7 yr old range? I guess it just depends but i was wondering if there were any statistics like that for a "typical" year.
