How many of each preference? Very important.

what is the price of red and black angus:

cow/calf pair (four moth old calf )
bulls (1500lbs)
steers (700lbs to 800lbs)
heifers (400lbs to 500lbs)

If they are just run of the mill cattle, (decent but no special blood)
Cow Calf pair $800-1200 depending on quality. If you wean the calf at 500-600lbs you'll get half your money back.
Bulls-strictly dependant on quality and purpose. Run of the mill $600-$1000 unless he's a high quality breeder, then the sky's the limit.
Steers 700-800 @ $.85/lb? if quality OK
400-500 heifers .90/lb?

600$ bull is a loosing bet for the breeder. Why raise a bull up for 600 dollars when you can sell him for a steer at a younger age and for more money? If a bull is not worth a 1000$ base at a year then he is not worth keeping around.

Sounds like somebody isn't keeping him around.[/quote]

No bull, worth siring calves should be worth less than $1000.00 as a yearling and $1500.00 or more as a 1 1/2 yr old. This will not be the better end of the bulls to sell this spring. To buy a good quality, growthy bull, with better than avg. epd,s expect to pay $2000.00 or more, for yearlings.
D.R. Cattle prices on every thing else is in the ball park unless you are
looking for really top of the line reputation heifers, or cows.

Not bad. We got $1.19 a lb for a 525 red baldy

& back in aug when prices were good but weren't as good as sep or oct we were getting around .98 for 600-700 lb black & red baldies.

This statement along with txag's statement shows the difference in value of quality. Heavier and also more money per lb..
Thank You!!

The problem that has occurred in the angus breed is that their are so many breeders in some areas, that you can go out and get good quality ( not top quality) AI bulls out of good quality cows for $1000-1500. With the AI program the genetics have surpassed the demand. A commercial cow calf operater can easily call a bull supplier and get several good quality bulls for $1000 with a group purchase anymore. AI did some great things for cattle genetics- but also was a great detriment to some top cattle breeders- Same thing thats happening with the AQHA.

  ;-) :)

as with any breed, you can probably find polled hereford bulls of all price ranges.

Look at the American Hereford Association website. I believe they show some sale results. They also list upcoming sales
