Is it possible/practical to have two head of cattle per acre on good pasture if I fertilize, or is it just simply not enough land? I live in north central Kentucky. I feed grain year round, and a small amount of hay in the summer months.

You need to talk to your local extension person. They'll be able to recommend how many head per acre, depending on type, quality of forage and rainfall. Good luck...

I live in Iowa. Here we can get my with 3 hd. per acre. The thing that can help you the most is ultilizing a Pasture rotation program. Of course Rain helps!

I have one small pasture that I do run at 2 head per acre. It takes some managment though. We fertalize twice a year, plant rye, and spray for weeds. The biggest problem I could see is what happened this year. A long dry spell. Luckly I have other pastures so I could move a couple to ease the stress on the land.
