what are the numbers/indicators saying about the cattle inventory?

for 8 years or so, the number of cows has declined... is this still the case or are more heifers being retained now?

just curious, havent heard in a while. with heifer prices as high, it seems hard to retain them..

thanks

The latest figures I have heard on feedlot placements are total placements down 855,000. Of that number, the heifer portion accounted for 805,000. Sounds like retention is in full swing with those numbers. I haven't heard any cattle inventory figures lately.

In the latest Drovers there is an article titled "Herd rebuilding slowed by strong prices".
The gist of the article is that cattle numbers are still declining.
