Cattle Ear Tags / Fly Control

Which brand fly control ear tag works best? Is one in each ear recommended? All comments appreciated! Thanks! Len

I personally still like dust bags. Critters quickly learn to dust themselves whenever they need it, and the relief is there anytime they want to use it. As for the tags, I have used a couple brands and didn't see a nickel's difference in em.

I used Python Magnum tags last year, and they worked really well. You use 1 per animal. They cost about $1 each if I remember right. The tags are good for 3-4 months and then you re-tag. I tagged in May and September. I also treated the animals with Ivermectin at the same time.

I use the old cattle rub suspended across the gateway. Retreatable and you can change brands/types of pesticide at will. Put it where they have to go under it to get where they want to go. The pesticide is mixed with Diesel as a carrier.

never felt like i got my moneys worth out of tags. they dont last all season and dont seem to work as well as the y should for the price. powder and rub arent perfect either but cheaper.

The tags themselves worked great, NEVER did see a fly land on one of them! But they sure didn't do much good for the cattle. In a short time we were back to the cattle rubbers hanging between posts. Reminds me of those tick collars for dogs, they work great too, never saw a tick on one of them.....

I agree with brokemouth and Burno. Dont waste your money.Cowtails work better around here.
