Help Support CattleToday:

Hello and welcome to the discussion board.
When the animal is fully grown, they start using their
food calories to add fat, i.e. backfat, a bigger brisket, etc.
Then you will know they are "finished". The age and
weight at that time will depend entirely upon their
genetics and food supply. If you pen them up and feed
grain, they will grow faster. It takes longer as a rule
if they are raised on forage. Tall animals take longer to
finish than shorter animals. Logically, I guess you could
say that taller animals require more feed to reach their
mature height.
