I START TO RAISE A HERD OF HEREFORDS ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO AND I AM TRYING TO GET MY NUMBERS UP I CURRENTLY HAVE 15 HEIFERS AND 5 BULLS 4 BEING UNDER 5 MONTHS I WAS WONDERING WHEN YOU SHOULD HAVE THEM CATRATED I HEARD BEFORE THREE MONTHS AND DO YOU GET MORE MONEY FOR A STEER RATHER THEN A BULL

If we have a bull calf born that we KNOW we want him to be castrated, we do it when he's first born. Real easy to cut/castrate at that time. But, many times we don't decide which ones to castrate til later. We will do it anytime between birth til just prior to weaning, depending on the fly situation.
Yes, in NY you will get more for the calves if they are castrated. There are a few buyers you could sell direct to that want bull calves (I think there is one in Pa.).
