castrating...what age?

well our heifer had her calf...a little bull...he is 3 weeks old and we would like to know when we should castrate....he will be slaughtered in fall of 2002...... mom amd calf are great and so is our yearling bull!!

We have 4 Holstein Bull Calves, they are now 3 months old. We banded them at 2 months, everything went well, didn't seem to bother them or cause them any pain. I'm glad we did it before the flies got real bad. Hope this helps. JB

The sooner the better. I think a band works really well on the little guys; they act like they don't even know it's on there, no blood either. Good luck..

It is my opinion that one should band them within 2 or 3 months. It is so much easier than waiting. Too much longer and then you have to calcrete band or, worse, cut.
