Every year something competes with me to get the c antelopes- I'll wait one more day for them to ripen a touch more and the next morning something has been eating on it. I tried setting them up on pots- but they get knocked off and eaten.
The teethmarks are small so I ruled out deer and am leaning towards rabbits.

Is there anything that will keep them out short of a fence?

I have the same kinds of issues with chickens. I haven't seen a fence yet that will keep them out if they really want in. Mine will hop into the dog kennel to get the food.

Don't know about cantelopes but watched a squirrel pick him a nice ripe tomato the other day and go up the tree with it.

All we have problems with are stupid armadillos.

I've been gettin' up all hours of the night checking for one that's literally plowed my lawn up the last couple of weeks.....finally found him rootin' this morning and shot the rascal.

They will root up a yard as good as a bunch of wild hogs.

We refer to the as:

"Possum on the Half-Shell"
