My husband and I recently purchased a farm and home in NW Oklahoma. We also purchased a herd of bred Hereford heifers, which will start calving this month. Can someone tell me some of the sure-fire signs that will indicated that the heifer is within a short time of giving birth. How soon after they start making bag can we expect the calf and when they start (springing or is it stringing) can we expect the birth to take place? Any and all help greatly appreciated.

Springing heifers or cows will generally calve with in a couple days to a couple of weeks following bagging up. Look for signs of discharge, this will generally happen with in days of calving. She will also seperate herself from the herd when she is ready to calve.

good question Debbie, and a nice webpage too, Dun.....

Debbie, next time post a question like this on the beginner page, as more people check that page than this one...at least I do, I just happened to have a few minutes to kill this morning and decided to check out this page, and I am glad I did!
