Calving Season

Whew, it has been some kind of busy around here for the past few weeks, Our heifers were bred to start calving on Sept 15th with the cow herd starting on the 29th. We bred 28 heifers and so far have 20 calves on the ground. Of the 72 cows we bred we have already calved 25 so only 47 to go! My husband said he would be glad to see the end of this season they have kept him running tagging and weighing calves. Yesterday he had on deliver upside down and backward so it was a hard pull but he and my son managed to get the calf delivered and both cow and calf are doing fine. Today we had a set of twins out of an old cow that sure didn't need the extra work at her age. I am always excited when calving starts but just as excited to see it end! We are also trying to get ready for some fall sales check out our consignments on our blog.

Well we lost one today, really odd calf was fine this morning and dead this afternoon not a mark on it. It was born on 10/5 weighed 65lbs nursed and was doing fine. All we can figure is it got stepped on just strange for sure.
