Calves Gain Better

Help Support CattleToday:

The op should have marked a group of calves in the herd and not vaccinate or worm until weaning while weighing at the same time as the others. With no control group I don't see what he was basing anything off of.

4.Never graze closer than 4". Worms seldom deposit eggs above the 3" level.
huh?
Eggs are passed out in the feces. Eggs hatch in feces and become larvae. Larvae move up on grass. Cattle ingest larvae. Larvae mature in the gut and lay eggs. Cow poops out eggs and cycle repeats.
Horn fly is a little different but still don't lay eggs on the grass.
Both sheep and cattle can get barber pole worms.

Greybeard; My brain fart. I know better, thanks for the heads-up! But I believe I am right when I say that the larvae seldom go above 3", am I not?
Also, if sheep and cows both get barberpole worms, can the FAMACHA test work on cows also? I can see that it might get a little dangerous working with the cow's eye, but in theory at least?
