calves coming backwards

Help Support CattleToday:

It is not an abnormal presentation. Can occur in up to 5%.
Breach is. Leg back is. Head back is. Upside down is.

nope, cows werent over conditioned and they have plenty of room to move around..we did decide to give the heifer another chance..hope we dont regret it.

Posterior is a 'normal' presentation--up to maybe 5%.
Breech is considered abnormal.

We now calve 'out'---cows are not jammed up or crowded. We unroll bales, lotsa room. I maybe have assisted one out of the last 400.

I think we used to lock 'em up and assist---and we were 'assisting' in the problems we caused by locking them up.

Our death loss--to weaning---for last 4 yrs--is less than 2%. Calve april and may. Generally drive around twice a day, sometimes once as it winds down...knowk on wood--owww!
