I have a 5 month old bull calf with a lot of swelling in the lower part of his jaw, all the way down to his brisket area. Has a whiteish discharge from his mouth. Sticks his tounge out and flips it back and forth. He tried to eat a little feed and hay, then began to stick his tounge in the water. Then shortly after threw it up. You can tell he doesn't feel good. Please help with any ideas.

Call your vet!

It he cannot drink, or eat.......

Hard for any of us to tell you what it is without actually seeing/touching the calf.

Sounds like something "stuck" in mouth, throat, tongue, etc.

Call your vet or risk losing the calf, your choice.

I hate to sound like a parrot but call a vet now asap this is an emergency no time to dilly dally on a cattle forum. Or shoot him if you do not want to pay the emergency Sunday call fee.

Calf is doing better. Gave him a shot of Penicillin when we got him up. Maybe got a little better. The next morning we gave his a shot of Nuflor and he seemed to be getting better. Gave him another today and let him out. The swelling is going down and he's eating. Our vet said it was an adema from the fluid from congestion. Never seen this before, but this is cattle.
