We have a week old calf who has grey manure. Is this
something to be concerned about? Calf acts normally
so far and is active. It is nursing a cow that is fed
grass hay.
Thanks,
Dave
I believe grey manure can signal an infection, but am not sure.
However, we had several calves with grey manure a couple of years ago. They acted well and were nursing just fine. We finally traced the cause down to a discarded sack of cement that had torn open. They managed to squeeze their heads into an opening in a shed door and had had been licking the cement.

Sounds like the cow is just producing really rick milk, the calf should adjust to this and feces should apear to be normal in a few days, or it may be that the calf has scours and treatment with an oral electrolyte soln. would be beneficial to prevent dehydration.

when the stool turns a sliver color the calf has scours. Its a bacterial imbalance in the digestive system. Cut the milk in half so its not as rich and put yogurt into its feed. The yogurt will help the enzyms and microbs in the gut. Also use electorlyts so he wont get dehyrated as Michelle said ^_^. I hope the little one feels better
