Sure you often hear healthy cattle grinding their teeth just like a child does in his sleep.

That's an interesting thought. I've never heard our cattle grinding their teeth unless they were in distress. This calf is 8 days old, he should be racing around, checking things out, playing, bucking, and having a good time - not ambling about the shed. Based on the information presented, I would have to agree with your vet. Just my thoughts.

put some of that ther milk on your fingers two of them. wet that tit you want sucked down with milk real good. dont be shy on the milk! now get that calf sucken on your fingers spred them apart and slid that ther wet tit in between em. that calf will go to sucken the tit an never know it! seener done and done it a time or 2 my self.
